THE SUSTAINABLE SCHOOLS PROGRAMME -KZN

Supporting Schools on their Sustainability Journey

The Sustainable Schools Programme aims to cultivate Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) practices in a way that is relevant to South African schools.  Shaped by partnerships and collaboration, the Sustainable Schools Programme takes a holistic approach to ESD.  Continuous learning, action, reflection, and adaptation are core principles of this approach.

One Planet SA is the implementation partner in KwaZulu-Natal of Cape Town based NPO Nature Connect.

UN GLOBAL SEARCH FOR SUSTAINABLE SCHOOLS PROGRAMME

Making a Difference

The Global Search for Sustainable Schools Programme is part of the UN Sustainable Lifestyles and Education Programme of the One Planet Network.  The aim of the programme is to make sustainable lifestyles an integral part of mainstream education.

 

The objectives: 

•  Support implementation of regional and national mandates for Education for Sustainable Development and lifestyles.

• Develop the capacity of schools to design and integrate sustainability into school curricula, infrastructure, management, and administrative practices.

• Engage teachers and students in the implementation of education for sustainable development and lifestyles in their schools.

•    Encourage participants to foster sustainable practices in everyday life and in their communities.

SUSTAINABLE NUTRITION FOR CLIMATE ACTION RESEARCH

Encouraging Real Change

Through the innovative ukuphilisayo kusembiseni / Healing is in the Pot Research Project in collaboration with the University of Bristol, UK and the TESF (Transformative Education for Sustainable Futures) network, we aim to investigate what helps people make more sustainable food choices - and what prevents them from changing.  The programme includes a series of interactive workshops focussed on supporting participants to make healthier, more sustainable food choices - highlighting how this can make a positive contribution to climate action.

WATER EXPLORER SOUTH AFRICA

Tackling the Issue

The international Water Explorer Programme supports schools by providing key educational input through curriculum aligned challenges focussed on water. The action-packed programme helps learners and teachers to deepen their understanding and knowledge of environmental issues while developing an environmental ethic – ultimately learning to manage their resources wisely.
